A phrase I wanted to say a lot, but never really did. Quite a few people here just assume who I'm voting for or they kinda pressure the question on me for one side.
So I've kept quiet about it.
I voted for John McCain.
OH NO I'M A RACIST BETCH WHO LIKES SARAH PALIN AND I MUST WANT THE WAR TO CONTINUE AND I PROBABLY HAVE A BUNCH OF OTHER AWFUL IDEALS, OH I'M SUCH A BAD, BAD PERSON.
Yea, that's what it feels like here. I'm fine with people liking Obama. Hell, I like him myself! I think he's got some awesome ideas that would be great for this country.
I am fine with people's opinions.
But JEEZUS it's scary how Probama people are around me, like seriously I only know two other people my generation that voted McCain. I must be an old person.
So yes, I have been frightened into hiding my opinion. Almost frightened into not voting but that would have been a stupid decision on my part and I'm very glad I sent in my ballot. It's just so intimidating when people just kinda shove their opinions in your face and it feels like you can't even try to put in input.
But it's done now and I'm out of the closet. On DA at least.

So what's my standpoint?
I consider myself a moderate, I've got quite a few liberal views but some are also conservative. And some are in between and I wonder why people can't just compromise about an issue.

My opinion is that Obama's ideas are for the future as a whole, and McCain's are good for our current situation. I'm sure many of you disagree and I'm fine with that. McCain being a war veteran, in my eyes is a good thing. I think that with his experience he could manage the war well. I don't want more people to die. You all have seen my reaction to the loss of my teacher's son. But after that, a thought struck me. Why are we fighting? Why are the troops fighting? Do you think they'd be out there aimlessly fighting for nothing? Of course I want them home, of course I want them to live. But if there's a mission that needs to be done, then it must be done, and I have faith in them.
As for the economy, again it's experience in general. I think he can do a good job of taking care of it. If Obama had the same amount of experience I'd probably have voted for him, who knows.

Sarah Palin? I like her. I want to like her. There's so much crap said about her that it's hard to find a way to feel about her. If she can govern her state well, I think she would have done fine as a VP.
However, I agree with everyone that she would not do well as a president at all. Had McCain been younger I'd been more comfortable since she'd have more of a support role than an all-out back up role, and yea, her as a president is not a good thought.
I never knew much about Joe Biden so I can't say anything about him at all x3;; Everyone's just focusing on talking shit about Sarah Palin so I guess that's where that went.

If we could fuse the two presidents together, or, have them work together, that'd be an awesome solution. I have so much respect for both of them, if McCain would take care of the now and Obama take care of things in between and the future once everything's a little more back on track, WIN! I really do like both, it was just a matter of timing and McCain won this timeslot for me. Yes, my parents also have an influence on my thinking, but it's not because OH HAY THEY BE MY PARENTS, THEY MUST BE RIGHT. I disagree with them on quite a few things. I just happen to agree fully with their beliefs on this election.

So how do I feel about Obama winning? I think it's an absolutely wonderful thing that a black man has been elected president. It shows how far civil rights and all of that from the past has come.
But I have my worries. I worry about how he will pull off his ideas. They're so appealing, but I feel uneasy about how well they will be executed. I also don't like how among 'younger voters' it was kind of a bandwagon-y thing. It's understandable, with all the great ideas he has. But it makes me a little sad.
I have hope though, what's done is done. He's the new president and that's all there is to it. If he can execute everything well then I am satisfied.
That's my opinion, you can agree or disagree (as I'm sure many of you will), but please, please respect it. I have never gone out of my way to say someone's wrong or rub my ideas in their face as I have gotten a little taste of such here.
